Today I read Ester 7-10

Chapter 7 starts out with Queen Ester preparing a meal for the King and Haman. After the Feast King Ahasuerus asked Ester again, What is it that you request, I’ll give you everything up to half my kingdom. And with humility Queen Ester speaks, I ask that you spare my life and the lives of my people. We’ve been sold and my people will be destroyed and be killed. The king responded “who is he, and where is he, who has dared to do this?” And Ester responded “This wicked man Haman” Haman heard this and was terrified. If I could be a fly on the wall I’d like to see Haman’s expression.

Then the King stood up in wrath and left to another room. Haman began pleading for his life to Ester. Then the king returned and said “Will he even assault the queen in my presence in my own house? At that moment the kings guards covered Hamans face. One of the Kings eunuchs said “there are gallows outside Hamans house that he had planed to use to hang Mordecai, the man who saved your life” The King responded “hang him on that” So the hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai.

That day the king gave to Queen Ester the house of Haman. Then the King took off his signet ring which he took from Haman and gave it to Mordecai. Then Ester fell at the Kings feet and pleaded with him to reveres the decree that had gone out to all the Provences to kill all jews. The king gave Ester his Kings ring, told her to write whatever she wanted in the name of the King.

Next the Kings scribes were summoned and an edict was written by Mordecai in the name of King Ahasuerus. that on December 13th all jews were given orders to arm themselves and to defend what is theres, and any enemy that comes upon them on this one day, they may plunder their enemies goods. This decree was sealed with the Kings Ring and sent to all the provinces, on swift horses that were bread from the royal stud.

Now Mordecai is wearing royal robes and a crown. and everyone in the city of Susa rejoiced.

Now, December rolls around, the jews and their enemies, Their enemies hoped to animate the jews and the Jews were prepared to fight anyone who came against them. But the narrative quickly changed. The Jews managed to win the battle, and to plunder the goods of those who came against the Jews. And their reputation preceded them. A great fear came upon those who hated the jews. Also, all the officials and all of the governors helped the jews because they feared Mordecai. And the Jews defeated their enemies. And in Susa itself the Jews killed 500 men.

That day, the number of men killed was reported to the King. His response to ester “What else do you wish? It will be granted to you” Her response:” I wish that the ten sons of Haman be hanged on the gallows. So the King agreed and they were hanged. The report from the rest of the Jews: 75,000 men were killed. The next day, they rested, had a feast, and made that day a holiday.

Wow! What a story. Whats my takeaway? This book about trust and courage. And the takeaway, Trust God, Take courage, I cant wait to read what happens in the next book. The book of Job.
