Today I read Proverbs 11-12

Today I read Proverbs 11-12

Chapters 11 and 12 is a continuation about wisdom. I’m going to try and break apart the structure of each chapter.

Vs 1 a false Balance (subject) is an abomination to the Lord (result)

But (opposite) a just weight (subject) is his delight. What does this mean? Is this talking about a literal balance of weights and scales? I looked it up in a commentary and it explains a false balance as a barter system.

Vs. 1 being deceptive is an abomination

Vs 2. The humble is wisdom

vs. 3 Integrity of the upright is a guide

Vs 4. Righteousness delivers from death

Vs 5. Righteous blameless keeps his way straight

Vs 7. When the wicked die his hope dies

Vs. 8 with his mouth the righteous are delivered.

Vs 9. With knowledge, the righteous is delivered

Vs 10 When it goes well for the righteous the city rejoices

Vs 11 blessings of the righteous bless the city

Vs 12 A man of understanding is slow to speak

Vs 13. Whoever is trustworthy keeps things hidden

Vs 14. With an abundance of counselors, there is safety

Th rest of Chapter 11 continues to point out the blessings of a righteous with a sprinkling of verses about using discretion.

Chapter 12 starts out talking about discipline and favor from the Lord.

It would be easy to pick apart each verse in full detail. I’ll just pick a few,

Vs. 5 The thoughts of the righteous (Subject) a person who has a proper fear of the Lord and has a desire to bring Glory to God. His thoughts are “Just” ( the results) A person who fears the Lord and makes choices based on bringing glory to God with have “Just” thoughts. Meaning, according to scripture, understanding the implications of Sin and understanding the consequences of it will align their priorities to laws given by God.

And then these two verses about Slothfulness that I just need to get.

Vs. 24 The hand of the diligent will rule. (Wisdom) While the slothful will be put to forced labor

Vs. 27 Whoever is slothful will not roast his game but the diligent man will get precious wealth

I need to memorize these verses and remind myself when I’m tempted to be lazy and slothful.

These chapters were hard to read because there is so much to absorb that you cannot soak it all in one setting.  But we move on to the next chapters.
